International Society for Professional Identity in Nursing

The International Society for Professional Identity in Nursing (ISPIN) believes nursing is influenced by characteristics, norms and values that result in an individual thinking, acting, and feeling like a nurse. By working with nursing colleagues around the world, we have defined what it means to be a nurse and developed 4 main domains that speak to the work we do – regardless of your licensure or work location. This initiative to further foster professional identity formation is based on think tanks, expert feedback in a variety of disciplines, literature, and research. This group works with educational organizations to incorporate professional identity formation into nursing curricula as well as working with others to incorporate professional identity into seminal documents. As we continue to refine and develop this concept, we want to share this deeper understanding with students, nurses, health colleagues, and society in general.
